Dr. Yelle's research focuses on the physics and chemistry of the atmospheres of planets, satellites, and comets. His work spans the range from detailed data analysis of to theoretical models. Data analysis projects are usually connected to observations from NASA planetary missions or spacebased observatories. Theoretical investigations concern calculation of the thermal structure, photochemical calculations, spectral synthesis, and most recently, 3D general circulation models for upper atmospheres. Objects of current interests include the thermal structure of the upper atmospheres of Jovian planets, general circulation models for Titan's upper atmosphere, spectra and thermal structure of very cool brown dwarfs, analysis of DS1 images of comet p/Borrelly, and analysis of HST UV spectra of the Jovian planets.
