Teaching Assistantships

All students are required to teach in the Planetary Science Department for two semesters. This usually consists of a half time teaching assistantships for each of the two semesters. The minimum requirement is one quarter time assignment for each of the two semesters.

Students with extensive previous teaching experience may petition the graduate student affairs committee to reduce or waive the teaching requirement. Also, students with special circumstances (handicap, severe language problems, etc.) may petition the graduate student affairs committee to fulfill their teaching requirements with an alternative plan that provides an equivalent or superior teaching experience. (e.g. develop lab experiments or special class projects).
