World Laws

The Law Of Magic: Everyone born in Aysle has an innate magical talent. In game terms, they get one add in one of the four magical skills, and one add in an Arcane Knowledge. They have more flexibility with their birthmagic than with others.

The Law Of Observation: What is observed, is real. This gives extra power to illusions.

The Law Of Honor/Corruption: Originally, only the Law Of Honor, which basically said that things seem as they are: Honorable people are handsome, and have powers arising from their honor, while the Corrupt are ugly and weak. This law was twisted by Uthorion to give similar powers to the Corrupt, including the ability to shift their Corruption into the land, causing them to appear fair (but hurting the land's fertility as a side-effect). There is a discussion of the exact effects of this Law available.

Description

Aysle is a disc-shaped world, with a hole in the middle where the sun passes through each day. It is a land of powerful magic, and nearly as powerful spiritual resources. It is a land shared by humans, elves, dwarves, and giants, among others. And it is a world which has invaded our own.

A hundred years ago, the humans of Aysle were governed by Lady Pella Ardinay, when Angar Uthorion, leading a force from Orrorsh, invaded. When Lady Ardinay met Uthorion in single combat, she was beaten and her body was possessed by Uthorion's spirit. In her form, Uthorion ruled Aysle for a century, pulling it deep into corruption.

In 1993, Uthorion led an invasion of Earth. Maelstrom bridges landed in the British Isles and Scandinavia, letting in armies of barbarians, vikings, corsairs, giants, trolls, dwarves and many other creatures. The armies of Aysle took control of nearly all of the lands they reached. But when Uthorion/Ardinay put foot on our world, an ancient spell sundered the ties giving him control of Ardinay's body. She reclaimed her body, and Uthorion's spirit moved to the body of Thorfinn Bjanni.

Since that time, Aysle has been wracked by civil war, between the partisans of Ardinay, the Army of the Light, and the partisans of Uthorion, the Dark Army. Recently, Uthorion was slain by Fugitive Group C, and Ardinay was poisoned by unknown assassins.
