The French Resistance, named to recall the resistance to Nazi occupation,
is the collection of pretty much all forces in France trying to overthrow
the Cyberpapacy. It includes a wide variety of smaller groups, including
many local gangs, and receives assistance from many outside groups, including
the other countries of Europe and the Vatican.
The headquarters of the Resistance is undeniably Paris. Remaining, as it does, Core Earth reality, it is much more conducive to planning and administration than anywhere else in France. The city itself is run by a group known as Paris Liberte (Free Paris), which works closely with the Resistance. Paris is also the home for other groups, most notably a slew of violent gangs.
Father Bertrand: A priest from Magna Verita, the home cosm of the
Cyberpapacy. Unlike most of his fellow priests, he did not
transform to the new, high-tech reality, and considers
Malreaux to
have fallen from grace. He currently works in Paris, running a clinic,
healing the wounded and preaching to all around him of the evils of
technology. Fugitive Group C met him when they needed to deal with
GE's radiation sickness.
Marcella DuBois: The leader of the Parisian gang known as the Tri's.
They are the most 'patriotic' of the gangs, and often work with the
Resistance. They have a good reputation with the people of Paris,
and have become famous as 'sponsors' of Fugitive Group C.
The relationship has not always been smooth, however. They first began when
Fugitive Group C agreed to raid a Cyberpapal Internment Camp in exchange for
a 'Net-runner's help in finding Mike Robinson's
soul (which had been imprisoned for some time). However,
Osato then kidnapped the runner to make it seem as though Fugitive Group
C was reneging on the deal, and to gain leverage on them by controlling the
runner. By the time the smoke cleared, Fugitive Group C had not only
wrecked the internment camp in the name of the Tri's, but destroyed the
Cyberpapal Space Station Firmament as well. This boosted the Tri's reputation
considerably and helped reconcile the two groups.
Marcel Lamberge; A member of the Paris Liberte Militia. He knew
GE in the days GE spent with the Resistance, and
is Fugitve Group C's main liaison with the PLM.
Armand Lenox: A member of the Paris Liberte Militia. He was
the group's contact when they first went to Paris, given by the
Resistance members they met in Basel.
Jean Martins: An agent of the French Resistance. Looking for GE,
he found the group at the Temple Of The Possibility Chalice, where
he lent his speedboat to GE. The speedboat was destroyed, however.
