Umbras

Status: Enemy

Reality: Aysle

Umbras is a man who at first seemed fairly trivial, but was quickly recognized to be rather more. He was first encountered as the leader of a group of brigands who attempted to waylay Fugitive Group C. He got a boat thrown at him by Chrome for his troubles, but it didn't hit him. He then seemed to take an unusual interest in Ta'eesh and followed him around for quite some time after that.

It was a long time before more information came out. Umbras was a fairly corrupt individual in Aysle in the days of Uthorion's invasion. When attacked by a sort of animate shadow, he desperately called on Corba'al for help. Corba'al, not having many human followers, was intrigued and saved him by merging him with the shadow, giving him the ability to transform into a shadow and teleport in that form. (It was then that he adopted the name Umbras. His previous name is not known.)

When Ta'eesh began his slide into Corruption and came to Corba'al's attention, Umbras went to encourage Ta'eesh down that dark road. He did this through a variety of methods, from offering simple help, to offering sinister enchanted objects, to attacking him and forcing him to call upon his father (who was secretly Corba'al). Finally, Ta'eesh's corruption was complete.

When Ta'eesh decided to try to redeem himself and came to confront Corba'al at the End Of The World, Umbras was there, and fought to keep Fujiwara (with the Eternal Sword) from interfering. In the process, he was horribly wounded, but escaped.

Umbras was recently hired by Gerrik Tharend to kill Kathryn. He attempted to do so in Hong Kong, but was first successfully held off and wounded by Kathryn, then had to flee when the rest of the group rejoined her.
