The man who would later go by the name of Cross was born Christophe Thibault in Magna Verita, the home cosm of the Cyberpapacy. His parents were secretly pagans, and raised him in their traditions, and he learned sorcery on the side from an ancient mage who helped the local pagans.
Eventually, the Church Police caught his parents, and he went into hiding with the ancient mage, until that mage was killed by a demon he accidentally summoned. Thibault wandered from place to place, barely staying ahead of the Church Police.
When Malreaux began the Crusade against Core Earth, Thibault snuck across the Bridge, hoping to lose himself in the new world. In the process he was transformed, acquiring a cybernetic tongue implant and a chipholder. In CyberFrance, he found himself in far more trouble than back home...here the Church's technology made it almost impossible to elude them for long. He hid in Paris for a while until he got the urge to get moving once more.
He joined Fugitive Group C while they were passing through Paris, right after they had lost Gerard Etienne to radiation sickness treatment. He accompanied them on their raid on a concentration camp and then to the space station firmament. In the process, he became transformed to Core Earth's reality. While on Firmament, he acquired a reel of monofilament wire; an accident with the wire removed his left hand.
He accompanied Fugitive Group C to the castle of Malekith in Sweden, and then helped in the pursuit of Thalchek. A surge of Wild Magic resulted in his destroying the caves of the Dorooni Wasp Riders; a separate surge resulted in his being charged with multiple lightning bolt spells, charging his very body beyond comprehension.
In final battle against the demon Thalchek, Mike Robinson used the magically charged body of Cross to power a Solar Cannon. Mortally wounded, Thalchek responded by firing a monofilament harpoon into Cross. The resulting electric discharge killed both Cross and Thalchek.
Or so it seemed.
Cross' New Life
In reality, Cross, hypercharged with electricity as he was, was changed into a strange form of electrical spirit, trapped in the body of Chrome. For many months, he stayed in Chrome's circuits, helping out with an occasional electrical discharge or prayer. When Chrome was in hand-to-hand battle with his fellow-cyborg Dominique Chevalier, Cross transferred to her, feeling he could do more good there. It was fortunate that he did so, for a few moments later, Chrom was transformed into Khrom. What effect this would have had on Cross is impossible to say.
When Sword Of God Jericho and Fugitive Group C confronted Malreaux together in an effort to save Avignon, and possibly all of France, Cross seized an opportunity to transfer again, into the CyberPope's cybernetics. With the help of Fujiwara's psychic powers, Cross was able to momentarily take control of Malreaux, leading to the CyberPope's death at the hands of Ta'eesh. At the last moment, Cross fled into the GodNet. His current whereabouts are unknown.
