Taking out
Sad as we were to leave our extraordinary Miller Range campsite, we heard from
Wally and Brian that Beardmore was sunny and warm with "not a breath of wind".
We were treated to beautiful views of the blue ice fields and freeze-thaw
patterned ground on our flight to Beardmore, where it was indeed paradise. We
had a couple of days to sort through and pack up our gear to be put onto the
C-130, and do a little exploring. We went down into a now-drifted-in unit that
still has food and some notes from visitors, mostly from previous ANSMET-ers. The views at
Beardmore weren't too shabby! We got a little worn out sorting and loading, but
then were rewarded with an amazing flight in the C-130 on our way home to
McMurdo, as the pilots took a little joyride
themselves through the Transantarctic Range's best scenery. Videos:
