On the way back from the planetary dunes conference and field trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park, Ralph and I stopped at Garden of the Gods. This amazing place is just on the fringes of the town of Colorado Springs. Lots of people even go there to walk their dogs after work, it seemed. The red, pitted sandstone, reminiscent of Uluru in many ways, are tilted sandstone beds on the edge of the Rocky Mountains uplift and deformation. I'm sure they're cousins to the flatirons in Boulder. I like the balanced rock at the end.
