DPS El Conquistador, Fajardo, 2009

The grand allure of sea and sky pulled me to Puerto Rico and kept me in its tropical embrace. Oh, and there was a DPS conference there - a great meeting, in all seriousness. It's just that my pictures are biased towards outdoor activities. A good number are from the marina, where I was roomed, the island Palomino (El Conquistador's own private), a dive trip with a number of other planetary scientists, and a rain forest tour. All of these were spectacular trips. One picture taken in the dark had to suffice as record of our adventure into the bioluminescent lagoon, something that should not be missed. And you can see Rick contemplating the swim to Palominito, featured in a bigger shot from our dive boat, that we managed to swim to on the last day. It anchors your mortality to walk around an island, your only terra firma in a fair swim's distance, in 8 minutes.
