Washington D.C.
30 April - 3 May, 2007

In May this year, I attended the 2007 Congressional Visits Day in Washington, D.C. with the AAS. This basically involved a 2 day visit to D.C. to be briefed on the current state of science funding in the US and to alsso spend a day meeting with the staffers of various congressmen, congresswomen and senators to encourage them to continue to fund basic science research (the funding that pays my rent each month!).
Even though it was a short and busy trip, I did still manage to get in some sightseeing (ever known me to go somewhere and not do at least some sightseeing?!). I spent some time around the Capitol building, the Library of Congress and the Washington National Cathedral. Not enough time, but it was still a great trip!

The cathedral has been the site of state funerals, memorials,
Presidential prayer services and is also where Matrin Luther King Jr.
spoke on the Sunday before his death.
A memorial was held here for him 5 days later.
