Turkey 3/22
First thing in the morning was a visit to the Summer
Palace, on the Asian side of the Bosporus. It
was absolutely stunning with its 46 chandeliers and Hereke carpets. Then, we took in the view of the area from
the top of Camlica Hill while we sipped hot tea. The bus then brought us down to the Bosporus where we had a view of the Maiden’s
Tower. We had lunch in the
“old city” (dates back to 3000 BC) area at the 1933 built Kanaat
Lookantasi Restaurant. After lunch
we headed back to the European side and visited a mosque in the Eyup
neighborhood. Some of us enjoyed a
refreshing “drink” called Boza that is made from carbonzo beans and
tastes much like apple sauce.
Finally, we drove up a hill to the Pierreloti neighborhood and visited a
cemetery with a great view. Dinner
that night was at a local restaurant up the hill from our hotel.
