Maps
- Global map of the total magnetic field, at 30 km and
40 km constant altitude
- Global maps of the radial,
north and
east field components
- Orbit tracks of the data used to produce the global maps
The data selection method, processing and maps are described in detail in Richmond and Hood, J. Geophys.
Res., in press (2008). A pdf of this paper is available
here. For access to the global data, see below.
Data
- NASA Levels 1-4 data is available from the Planetary Plasma
Interactions Node of the Planetary Data System. Level 2-4 data in this archive currently provides approx. 40%
coverage of the Moon.
- New processing of the LP-MAG data has provided the first global maps of the crustal magnetic field.
A compressed tar archive containing the 30-km data is available here. The archive contains
a readme file that describes the filenames used and the format of the data. For any questions, or for
data at other altitudes, contact me.
