Washington D.C.
March 27-30, 2006

I was in Washington D.C. for the Congressional Visits Day, which is a yearly event where people in fields supported in part by federal research funding meet with their congressmen and senators to encourage continued support (or increases) for that funding. Since it was my first time in DC, I took a few extra days and did a bit of exploring as well. I went to the Natural History and Air & Space museums, but didn't really take any pictures there. The following photos are mainly of the government buildings and monuments surrounding the National Mall.

The Arizona participants met with Congressman Jim Kolbe, one of the representatives for the Tucson area. From left to right, Mike Meyer, Mark Sykes, Jim Kolbe, David Hernandez and Me. Yes, I am wearing a suit. It was the first time in may years.

The DC Metro subway system was very nice. Here's a shot of a train coming into one of the stations.

The many cherry trees around the National Mall and the tidal basin were at the peak of their bloom. Here's a close up of one of the flowers.
