Hikers

Background

This was the fifth Grand Canyon hike I've done. Here's links to pages for my first, second, third, and fourth hikes there. The other hikers that were going to go with me got pretty sick the week before the trip and had to back out, but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity, so I did this one solo.

Hike Description

This hike was a ~45-mile, 4-day trek through the Grand Canyon, taking the South Kaibab and Clear Creek trails to Clear Creek Canyon, on the North Side, then back out via the Clear Creek and Bright Angel trails. I also hiked down Clear Creek Canyon to the Colorado River as a day hike. The Clear Creek trail doesn't get nearly as much use as the main corridor trails, and the Clear Creek area, where I camped for two of the nights, is much less crowded than the main camping areas like Bright Angel and Indian Gardens. I actually saw more snakes than people on the Clear Creek trail!

The Park Service has more info about the South Kaibab, Clear Creek, and Bright Angel Trails as PDF documents that you can download. Here's some more information about the Clear Creek Trail, with links to topo maps. That page says that it's 6 miles round-trip to the Colorado from Clear Creek area, but it's actually 6 each way!

Here's a map of the route, courtesy of Google Maps, with campsites labeled as yellow triangles.
