Description

Picacho Peak is located about 50 miles north of Tucson, right off I-10. We took the Hunter Trail, which is a 4-mile round-trip trail to the 3,374 foot summit, starting from ~2,000 feet. There's a 400-500 foot 'dip' in the middle of the trail before the main climb to the summit, so there's about 1,800 feet of total climbing on the way up, often in steep sections with the aid of steel cables attached to the rock. There was a fair amount of wind and rain during the hike, and it got pretty cold by Tucson standards (it actually snowed in Tucson later in the evening). The clouds were below the summit for most of our hike down, which made for interesting scenery.

As an interesting historical note, Picacho Peak was the site of the western-most battle of the Civil War, The Battle of Picacho Pass.

This really looked like snow off in the distance behind Matt, but we eventually agreed that it was the reflection of the clouds in water on the ground
