Day 1: Silver Lake to Garnet Lake

We started at the Rush Creek trailhead near Silver Lake (7,290', 0 mi) and hiked over Agnew Pass (9,890', 5.5 mi), down into a valley (9,000', 7.3 mi) and back up to our campsite at Garnet Lake (9,680', 8.4 mi). Garnet Lake was where we first joined the JMT.

The total distance was 8.4 miles, with major climbs of 2,610' and 680', and a 900' descent in the middle.
