Day 6: Vermilion Valley Resort to Upper Bear Creek Meadow

We had breakfast at the Resort and took the 9 am ferry back to the drop-off point near the trail (7,720', 0 mi). The lake was being drained so fast that we had to be dropped off at a different place than where were picked up the previous day. We hiked along the lakebed for about half a mile or so and took the Edison Lake trail back to the JMT near Mono Creek Bridge (7,870', 2 mi). From there, we began a steep ascent up (supposedly) 53 switchbacks to Bear Ridge (9,880', 6.6 mi), dropped down to Bear Creek (8,985', 8.2 mi), and climbed back up to Upper Bear Creek Meadow (9,560', 11.4 mi).

The total distance was 11.4 miles, and there was a climb of 2,150' feet at the beginning, then a descent of 900' and another climb of 575'.

We made sure to get ready early so we could get the first ferry. Our packs were the first ones in the pile.

This helicopter appeared to be scooping up water, likely to help fight a small fire near Mono Hot Springs that started the day before
