Day 8: Evolution Valley to Evolution Lake

We started about half a mile inside King's Canyon National Park (8,050', 0 mi), hiked to the base of the climb to Evolution Valley (8,480', 3.3 mi), and up to Evolution Valley (9,200', 4.3 mi). We took a long lunch, laundry, and swimming break at a nice little pool/waterfall, then hiked on to the beginning of the climb out of the Valley (10,000', 9.8 mi). The final climb took us to Evolution Lake (10,852', 10.8 mi), which was the highest point that we camped at on the whole trip.

The total distance was 10.8 miles and we climbed 2,800' over the day.

Evolution Valley is the hanging valley ahead of us--there's about a 700' climb up from the valley we're in to get to it

Views from our campsite near the lake, which was our highest campsite of the whole trip (around 10,850' elevation). There was some smoke in the air from a nearby fire, which made for a neat sunset.
