OpenSpace is NASA-funded, open-source software designed for interactive visualization of the known universe and humanity’s exploration of it. It displays live data from observations, simulations, and space mission operations; runs on multiple operating systems; and has an extensible architecture for high-resolution tiled displays and planetarium domes. OpenSpace also offers interactive tools for teaching and outreach. In her presentation, Dr. Rachel Smith will utilize the new fly-through-the-Universe software, OpenSpace, to explore the scientific search for habitable worlds and life beyond Earth. We will begin in our solar system, where signs of life are still being sought, then venture beyond to exoplanets and deep space as we examine the nature of life as we know it and our quest to determine whether we are alone in the Universe.
