LPL Newsletter: January 2018
Friday, December 22, 2017
We’re sending our monthly newsletter a little early, for two reasons. First, most of our staff will be taking time off to be with friends and family. Second, I’d like to remind you that the end of the year is a good time to make a donation to LPL. At LPL, while we get large government contracts to build spacecraft, find killer asteroids, and so on, we have a harder time finding money for student activities and staff development. Ironically, our biggest story this month, about the campaign to study 2012 TC4, involves students working at a telescope that they were only able to travel to because of gifts from donors. So thanks to those who have donated this year, and happy holidays to all.

Students are part of a drill that tests astronomers' ability to respond to a highly unlikely—but not impossible—scenario: an asteroid on course to collide with Earth.
