Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence Award

The Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence Award is an LPL initiative which is intended to promote, recognize, and reward exemplary performance among graduate teaching assistants assigned to PTYS undergraduate courses. The award consists of funding intended to be used toward travel and expenses to professional meeting chosen by the recipient. The Department is prepared to make one award per semester. All graduate teaching assistants assigned to PTYS courses are eligible, whether or not their home department is PTYS.

How to Apply:

Nominations from undergraduate students are solicited by instructors near the end of each semester (fall and spring).

Award Eligibility:

Graduate students serving as teaching assistants for a PTYS course; graduate students from other departments are eligible if they are serving as TAs for a PTYS course.

Award amounts & Award process:

The GTA Excellence Award provides $1,000 that the student can use to support research- or academic-related travel. The LPL Awards Committee reviews submitted nominations from undergraduate students. If the committee selects nominations to consider, they may solicit an endorsement or recommendation from the supervising instructor and/or a statement of teaching philosophy from the recommended TA(s) Recipients are selected the LPL Awards Committee.
